It is August, and for me, that means it is time to start getting ready to go back to work. As summer comes to an end, I like to go back to my checklist and see how I did. In June, I sat down and wrote a list of goals I wanted to accomplish while off on summer break. (Click HERE to reread that blog.) Some of them were fitness goals while others were just fun goals. Here is my summer goals update.
Summer Goals Update
My first goal was to be outdoors as much as possible. This was not a hard one for me because I love being outdoors in all seasons. However, I did manage to consciously think and appreciate all I have around me while being outdoors. On mornings that I would sit outside and drink my coffee, I would take the time to take it all in, the peacefulness I felt around me, the sound of nature all around. It was awesome. I went on many walks as well. I took new paths and walked farther, knowing that I have the time to do so.
Another goal that I had was to spend time with friends. This was so great to do. I was able to meet friends for breakfast, as well as lunch, or just meet up somewhere and hang out. This felt so good to catch up and appreciate the friendships I have around me.
Reading books in another fun hobby I enjoy over the summer as well. I was able to read a couple of books here and there. I read two fiction books that I enjoyed so much, I passed on to family. I did read a non-fiction book about meditation that I enjoyed as well. I will post these books at the bottom of this blog so you can check them out. I did not read a professional book as I wanted to, but I can still do that during whatever free time I will find.
I also wanted to try cooking new recipes. This was a lot of fun. I tried some new dinner as well as tasty lunch recipes. I also took some of my old favorites and made them vegan, which I was so excited about. I have some “summer” go-to recipes and I was afraid they would not taste the same. I made them while I was in NJ and my sister said she could not tell the difference. Perfect! I made two vegan desserts that I still need to perfect one of them, but they still tasted delicious.
Another summer goal I set out was to try new workouts. My husband and I just started to switch things up at the gym. Instead of using all the machines (which is not a bad thing) we are doing more free weights to target different muscle areas. This has been a big change in my soreness, but it always feels great.
There was a goal that I have not yet complete. I wanted to try different beaches around our state. Our weekends ended up being a lot busier than I had thought, and when we did go to the beach for our anniversary, we went to our favorite beach. However, here in Florida summer continues for many more months, so I can still visit these places. I did travel to Washington D.C. at the beginning of the summer, which I’ve been to before as a child, but this time I appreciated it so much more. I had such a blast walking around visiting different museums and great places to eat.
The most important goal I set for this summer was to spend more time with family. I definitely hit this goal and enjoyed every minute. I was able to spend a lot of time in NJ with my family. And although I knew it was going to be different and sad with my mom not being there, I still felt close to her and knew she was with us as we celebrated different things.
So, all in all, I feel that I did a great job hitting my summer goals. The time definitely flew by way too fast as it always does, but I enjoyed every day of it.
I would love to hear how everyone did with their summer goal list. There is still time left for a lot of you. I start work next week so my time is limited. Wheather you hit them during summer or not, keep them in mind and check them off when you can.
Until next time,
