Spring Cleaning

Spring Cleaning

Hello friends!

As I said in my last blog I wrote about how spring brings change.  Changing my house over from Winter to Spring means “Spring Cleaning.”   Those of you who know my husband know this is pretty much his favorite thing to do!

We like to make sure we clean every surface of the house.  This, of course, cannot be done in one day.  Also you want to make sure you have a plan so you do not get overwhelmed.  Tackle a room or a side of the house little by little.  Hopefully, it should not take longer than a week, but that will depend on the size of your house and how many rooms you have.

We like to start at one end of the house and make our way to the other side.  For us, we start on the side where the guest rooms are.  This is pretty easy because there is not much to clean.  We usually dust, and vacuum.  Spring cleaning means getting behind stuff, so we like to move the furniture to clean behind where dust and items linger throughout the year.  The guest bathroom gets a makeover as well.  While we clean it, we also change over the winter decorations to spring.  This includes the shower curtain, the curtain liner, rugs, and towels. We like to brighten it up in there.

Next, we move on to the kitchen.  This takes some time.  We make sure we clean the cabinets, inside and out, and move the oven and refrigerator and clean well behind and inside those.  It always amazes me how much food gets dropped under and around the oven!!  It is also a good time to clean and organize the pantry.  We are pretty good at keeping up with this throughout the year, but sometimes we miss some stuff.

Then, we move on to the family room.  This is basically some good dusting and lots of vacuuming.  The couches, tables, and chairs get moved, and those dust bunnies get sucked up.  We wipe down all the baseboards and give the sliding doors a good washing.  We like to steam the floors to get a really good clean floor.  At this time we try to leave the dogs outside for a while because they usually tend to follow me around while I vacuum, making sure to shake where I just clean.

Then we move into our bedroom.  Here we dust all the furniture really well.  Then we move the furniture and vacuum behind it, and the baseboards as well. Then we clean the carpets.  Since we have dogs, cleaning the carpet is a must.  We try to do this a couple times throughout the year. Our master bathroom gets cleaned as well.   The shower gets a good cleaning with a squeegee, along with the showerhead and the bath and walls.  We like to clean out the cabinets and go through all the stuff inside to see what can get thrown out.

Throughout the whole house, we also like to dust off all our ceiling fans.  It is amazing how much dust collects on those things.  Now is also a good time to check out the fire alarms and change their batteries.

Like I said, this is a lot of work that might take a couple of days to do.  In the end, when your whole house is clean, it will be worth it.  Keeping up with it all throughout the year is the hard part.  That is my most challenging part.  My goal this year is to keep up with it as much as possible.  If I keep a routine and clean throughout the week then I can enjoy a clean house on the weekends.

Keep a lookout for a printable Spring Cleaning List on my Pinterest page.  I will let you know when it is available.

Good luck with your Spring Cleaning, or if you are already finished with it, lucky you! Enjoy your clean house.  If there is something that you do differently or something to add, let me know!  I love learning from you guys!  The more we teach and learn from each other, the better we all become!

Awaken Your Inner Self!
